The ethnic composition of Bolivia comprises a great diversity of cultures. Most of the natives have assimilated mestizo culture, diversifying and expanding their ancestral roots. Consequently, in Bolivia the mixture of cultures is verified, joining Hispanic aspects with the Amerindian.

Mestizos

Mix of Amerindians and Europeans spread all over the country. The great majority of the Bolivian population assumes its mestizo identity but at the same time, it self-identifies with one of the indigenous peoples, they are part of 59% of the Bolivian population according to the 2012 census.

Indigenous-Originating

Descendants of the Andean pre-Hispanic cultures like the Aymaras and Quechuas (Inca Empire). These are concentrated in the western departments of La Paz, Potosí, Oruro, Chuquisaca and Cochabamba. There is also an important population of eastern ethnicities such as Guaraní and Mojeños that are found in the departments of Santa Cruz, Beni, Pando and Tarija.

White

Most are descendants of Creole and second generation European / Arab migrants from Germany, Croatia, Spain, Italy, Lebanon and Turkey. They are concentrated mainly in the big cities like Santa Cruz de la Sierra, La Paz, Tarija, and Cochabamba. In the department of Santa Cruz stand out the members of Mennonite colonies (55,000) that are dedicated to agriculture, according to the 2012 census are part of 3% of the Bolivian population.

Afro bolivians

Descendants d’africaines venues en Bolivie sous forme d’esclaves durant la colonie. Ils vivent sur le département de La Paz, principalement vers les provinces de Nord et Sud Yungas, ils représentent 1% de la population (recensement 2012)
